Trend Report: Radical Colors Take the Stage

We are introducing a new design resource to inspire commercial interior designers to experiment and think about ways to take risks in their designs for commercial interior settings.

“Radically Modern Color” dives into the unimaginable ways colors are being combined and applied to create everything from apparel to home decor. You can download the trend report here. Best yet, it’s free!

The new decade has already seen its fair share of disruption. In the past 18 months we’ve experienced major wildfires, political protests, and a global pandemic.

We’ve also seen a shift in the way color is being used. The color trends and themes in “Radically Modern Color” highlight the pairing of colors that reflects the disruption we’re seeing in broader society. Color and color applications are being used in imaginative ways, and these brighter hues and combinations are reminiscent of the 60s and the last time we were in the midst of such a revolutionary era.

“Radically Modern Color” focuses on four trends discussing what they are, where they are being used and how they are changing design. The trends highlighted are:

  • The Psychedelic Comeback  – The 60s are back and so are the bright colors and sinuous shapes so prominent during that time.

Photo by Davide Ligabue on Unsplash

  • Building Blocks – Color blocking is going to the extreme by pairing colors next to each other on the color wheel for a bold effect.

  • Blurring The Lines – Gradients are all the rage and so is the Gaussian blur.

Photo by Ilnur Kalimullin on Unsplash

  • Clash Of The Colors – Pairing sunny yellow, gold and mustard may have clashed in the past, but not so in this new decade.

We’re hoping these trends will inspire creativity in the coming year and allow you to be more radical with your use of color, especially with carpet. For even more inspiration, check out our Design Inspiration Page, where you can view our color collections and envision how you can create a colorful commercial carpet for your next project. You can also download the full Zeftron Color Pallette, consisting of 120-plus colors, or request to have a Zeftron pom box mailed to you.

We look forward to hearing what you think about these trends and how they might influence your design choices in the coming year. Leave us a comment and tell us what radical combination you’re thinking of designing with in 2022.

Encore Hospitality Carpet Introduces the Allure Collection

12 Broadloom Styles Made with Zeftron® Nylon Feature Innovative Design and Superior Performance

Encore Hospitality Carpet, a hospitality division of Brumlow Mills, is introducing its Allure Collection, an attractive array of 12 highly designed broadloom styles made with Zeftron nylon. The new collection features innovative textures, colors and large and small pattern sizes. It meets both the style and performance needs for a variety of hospitality environments.

A bold departure from many of today’s flooring options, the Allure Collection is aesthetically distinguished by its sense of the unexpected. Some products feature large geometric patterns and others have smaller, more traditional grid styles. The beauty includes the illusion of no repeat patterning. Colors seem to indiscriminately fade in and out, appearing and reappearing with different intensity. The weathered, distressed appearance, provides added visual intrigue.

Nine contemporary colorways are available with hues ranging from rich tans and deep browns to subtle greys and intense yellows.

“With more than 100 standard options to choose from, the Allure Collection can help designers make a unique design statement for virtually any hospitality project or space they might be working on,” said Encore Hospitality Carpet President Richard Heaver.

The dynamic styling elements of the collection are made possible through Encore’s state-of-the-art Infinity manufacturing technology, and Zeftron’s solution dyed nylon 6 with superior styling, performance and recyclability advantages for commercial carpet products.

Allure products are perfect for guest rooms and public areas, including corridors, meeting rooms, ballrooms, lobbies and dining areas.

Designers can begin the process of creating the perfect carpet for their project at the Encore website: www.encorehospitalitycarpet.com.  Select patterns, colorize your designs and see how your carpet would look in a three-dimensional room scene. You can also download the room scene, as well as a color swatch, the colorways and a spec sheet to a PDF document.

Zeftron, BOLYU & Global Furniture Present An Evening of Mugshots & Martinis

On March 24th, Zeftron’s A&D Specialist Chelsey Wolf co-hosted an evening of design alongside BOLYU and Global Furniture. The event, a celebration of spring and new product launches from all three manufacturers, was attended by 40 guests at the Global showroom on Park Avenue in New York City.  The theme for the evening, martini“Mugshots & Martinis”, added an element of entertainment to the event. Designers from Gensler, Frank & Marcotullio, Environetics, A Square Design, Stonehill & Taylor, Yabu Pushelberg, H2M, Meridian Design, and Perkins Eastman were in attendance.

Attendees enjoyed a signature Mugshot Martini while viewing product samples from BOLYU, Zeftron Nylon, and furniture from Global. An expert cosmetic artist gavecomplimentary makeup applications before guests were treated to professional headshots playfully dubbed “mugshots.”  Attendees were thrilled about the opportunity to have professional makeup 2photographs taken for the purpphoto M&Mose of updating their LinkedIn profiles.

Zeftron and BOLYU displayed custom carpet samples, along with running line styles, using Zeftron’s solution-dyed nylon carpet fiber.  Zeftron’s pom chain, exhibiting our full complement of 120 saturated colors, was shown to give designers azeftron sense of the vast color range offered with our product.

It was a wonderful and enjoyable evening.  We’re happy we could share product information, while also meeting new faces and catching up with some familiar ones.

A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who came out! We look forward to future events like this one where we can partner with complementary businesses to jointly introduce innovative and exciting product to the industry in a format that is both relaxed and engaging. Until next time – cheers!

Hospitality Outlook NEWH Atlanta 2016

richard 3By Zeftron®nylon’s Marketing Specialist Richard Radke

I recently attended a regional trade show that the NEWH Atlanta Chapter hosted in metro Atlanta. The event featured a Panelist Discussion to discuss the outlook of the hospitality industry. The panel was moderated by Michele Finn, President, Hospitality Media Group, and featured several Atlanta-based industry leaders, including:

  • Carlos Asensio, Project Manager, Noble Investment Group
  • Larry Carver, President, Carver & Associates
  • Alice Limer, Founding Principal & CEO, Fusion A.I. Design, Inc.
  • Mark Linch, SVP Project & Technical Services, Capella Hotel Group

richard 2All participants agreed that the outlook was good for 2016.  Mark had some reservations but Alice thought that since the last few years have been strong, orders would still be strong for ongoing projects in 2016.  At Zeftron we agree that renovations may be wrapping up but new brands and new concepts are moving forward.

Other key highlights from the panel discussion included:

  • Boutique concepts will continue to be important, even for senior living environments.
  • Technology, a huge factor in today’s hospitality industry, should not be the tail that wags the dog.  It should be used judiciously and should be proven so there are no surprises or failures during installations.
  • The desk is going bye-bye.  Younger people are not using the desks so commonly found in hotel rooms today; they are being re-thought with fold-away surfaces being considered.

richard 1

One interesting part of the session was when Michelle Finn asked each participant to name their favorite hotel.  Mark said Capella, but he admitted that he had an unbelievable experience at the 10-room Costa Rican Hotel Copa de Arbol.  I want to go! Who wants to join me?

Four Commercial Carpet Trends for 2016

These are exciting times for the commercial design industry.  New colors are constantly being introduced and applied in fresh and unexpected ways.  Innovative products – from seating to lighting to flooring — continue to inspire for their form and functionality.  The way we think about the spaces we work, live and play in continues to evolve.  In short, architects, designers, and manufacturers are all pushing the limits of what’s possible.  We are all rethinking the way in which people and products interact with their spaces.

So, what does this mean for commercial carpet products in the new year?  We have some thoughts!

Zeftron Poms
Zeftron offers colors that can make your custom carpet come to life

More Custom Colors and Carpets – Our carpet mill customers frequently ask for new and custom colors, and we are happy to oblige!  This trend is driven by product design teams and designers who realize that as the most abundant surface for any interior, carpet can play a major role in making a design statement.  Custom colors and customized carpets are crucial in making that design statement. Customization can help create a space that evokes a feeling or an experience.  As color experts for more than 40 years, we’re proud to be able to work hand-in-hand with our mill partners and designers to help them create the custom colors they desire.

Zeftron nylon installationGreater Styling Versatility The “blending” of interior spaces continues.  Many offices today integrate a residential or homey feel to them.  Senior living spaces, while still traditional in many instances, are bringing in themes typically found in a hospitality setting.  This new reality requires manufacturers to think differently and develop crossover products that are versatile enough to work in many different end-use spaces. Fortunately, Zeftron nylon is a highly flexible fiber when it comes to styling.  Our fiber enables carpet manufacturers to create products with varying styles, patterns and colorways to easily work across multiple end-use spaces.

Exceptional Performance – The more things change, the more they stay the same. Designers expect more from the products they specify today.  In addition to customization options and greater styling flexibility, they expect exceptional performance. Zeftron nylon is the only fiber brand that offers designers the piece-of-mind they need when it comes to performance.  Concerns about staining, color fading and wear become a non-factor when specifying a carpet made with Zeftron nylon.

Cradle to Cradle

More Green –One could argue that having a sustainable product is a given in today’s marketplace. Yet sustainability should never be a given or an afterthought.  As a fully closed-loop recyclable nylon with a minimum of 25 percent recycled content in every color, Zeftron continues to be a responsible steward of the earth and its resources.  We see green not as a trend for 2016, but as a vital part of everything we do every single day, month and year.

We welcome your thoughts and comments.

Three Questions with…Karen Martin, BOLYU Designer/Colorist

An occasional blog article series, “Three Questions With…” profiles designers, product developers, trend experts, colorists, arbiters of good taste and others who are shaping and influencing the commercial interiors industry.
Q.  You’re currently working on integrating colors from the new Reflective Elements collection into new products for BOLYU.  Are the Reflective Elements colors part of a bigger trend you’re seeing in color these days?

Pizzazz_PZZ76_l
Pizzazz from BOLYU contains intriguing reflective and metallic type colors.

The metallic — and now reflective – color movement has been amazing to me.  It started several years ago, essentially in the fashion industry, and it’s taken many twists and turns over the years.  I would say that this movement is no longer a trend, it’s established.  In fact, we introduced a product called Pizzazz several years ago that had a metallic look to it.

Made with Zeftron nylon, it continues to be a popular product today.
I think everybody is looking for a sparkle or a shine.  Today we’re seeing different colors with the metallic or reflective effect that you might not have seen just a short while ago.  For example, we’re noticing bright colors in orange or even green being paired with a metallic color. This is striking and unique, and not something you would have seen in the recent past.

Gareth Pugh 2011
Pizzazz from BOLYU contains intriguing reflective and metallic type colors.

These colors present such a departure from what we were working with in the past.  They are so exciting when contrasted against the muted colors, dull lusters and matte finishes we saw prior.
Q.  How does the Reflective Elements collection help you in your role as a colorist/designer?

What’s great is that Zeftron has added more options for designers, which is what we need.  More options gives us an edge to be innovative, to address the now and to address the future.  Of course we also want to use colors that are not just trendy, but have longevity to them as well.  These colors give us that flexibility.

As a designer, I feel I can create almost anything.  You can create added texture, introduce more styling…or even create an element of surprise and uniqueness.  It’s a styling tool that has become very important to use. What’s more, Zeftron’s Reflective Elements collection works really well with its Brilliant Collection.

Zeftron is sitting on top of a really nice color package.  It shows that they are paying attention to what’s happening in the market.  Zeftron’s colors give designers the opportunity to make something their own.

pull quote
Q.  Where do you see the colors being used — corporate, hospitality, etc.?

For us, it’s across the board.  We’re using these colors in hospitality, corporate, senior living and health care.  I can’t tell you any product that I’m not working on now that does not have a reflective or metallic element to it.  I think that’s a reflection (no pun intended!) of just how important and popular these kinds of colors have become in virtually every commercial space.
